no power steering!
I was replacing my motor mounts and doing timing belt recently and noticed that the power steering pump suction line (reservoir to pump) had rubbed almost completely thru. I could bend the line and it would start leaking, that's how close it was to losing fluid. So anyway I replaced the hose and ever since then the steering has been sporatic and getting worse. It will steer fine for a few turns and then have absolutely no power assist for a few.
I'm pretty sure I let air into the system so today i bled the whole system with new fluid (Honda specific), but it did not help the issue any. I did notice right after i replaced the line that the pump made abnormal whinning, it's not making much noise anymore, but I'm afraid I may have ruined the pump. I'm pretty sure there is no more air in the line unless it is somehow stuck down at the rack. Any help would be appreciated, especially if anyone knows the complete proper bleeding method. Like, do I need to crack open the lines at the rack to let air out? All I did was unhook one of the return lines from the reservoir, attach clear tubing so I can see what's going on, and then started the car and turned the steering back and forth till all the old fluid was out. I did notice a few bubbles but not as much as I'd like to see come out. Oh and yes this was done in the air and I kept the fluid level topped off so no air got back in there.

Re: no power steering! (I got the CD5 Jeebies!)
haha, nah, sporadic like it is, it's hard to predict what the car's going to do at each turn. Not good for my spirited driving style. Any reason why you say it's the pump? I just want to be more than certain before I start replacing it. Also, what replacement should I use? I get a discount at Advance but I'm not sure they offer anything other than remans for my car. thx

Thing is, it didn't look like it had been leaking there, only when i bent the hose, and the fluid was not low. However, the pump did suck in a tube half-full of air when I put the new one on. I was just stupid and didn't think about it.

when I bleed the power steering on my Accord...
I started the car, let it idle and turned the steering wheel lock to lock several times to bleed the air. I don't remember if you are supposed to leave the reservoir cap on or off though. also make sure you don't run the reservoir dry while doing this and be sure to not fill the reservoir past the upper lever mark.
I would just double check to make sure you got all the air out before going at the pump. Also, make sure your belt is properly tensioned.

Re: no power steering! (TouringAccord)
Yeah, I've already done all this, belt is definately tight and it's brand new also. And I put it on the lift and turned the wheel back and forth at least 20-30 times. Pump is now whinning a little more and steering is still sporatic. Probably gonna need a new pump.
