Default No power to A/C compressor

I had a compressor replaced on my wife’s 92 Honda Accord. It turns out that the original compressor was not bad at all. Apparently when the A/C button is pressed no power is sent to the compressor. However, when the compressor is connected directly to the battery it works fine.

Is there some relay or wire from the A/C button on the dash to the compressor that could have possibly failed or burned out?

Thanks
Rome

It is in the engine comparment on the PASSENGER side I believe.

If the system is low the compressor will still cycle on and off. In this case it might be a relay and once you get the issue of compressor comming on solved, make sure the system is properly charged with r12.

before you start ripping wire out of the dash make sure that the AC is full of refrigerant. Because there is a pressure switch that will not allow the compressor to turn on if the refrigerant is low!!

Also check your ground for corrosion, rust, loose, etc.

I got 1 stupid question to ask you................Why did you not come and inquire here before spending time and money replacing a compressor,,,,,,,,,,

it could be as simple as a fuse,,,,,,,,relay? it is located on driver side fender next to cruise control actuator, the 1 for the compressor has a red wire in it ,

Try this. underdash fuse box chk fuse # 7 7.5 amps, if no good replace and retry, if fuse is ok,, go to a/c compressor clutch relay there are 4 wires 2 black/yellow, 1 red, 1 red/blue, make sure you got power at both blk/yellow car running.a/c on , if no power, and fuse was ok you got wiring problem,, if you get power, chk to see if you get ground at red/blue, if you do that should enrgize the relay and power should go to the red wire with the relay plugged in , if no power at red wire you got a bad relay , if power at red wire and compressor not working then the wiring from relay to compressor could be damaged. u can chk this by jumping blk/yellow and red wire , if compressor comes on wiring is ok .....that is the easy part,

If you dont have any ground at relay connector red/blue wire let me know then there is a lot more **** to chk out ,, try this first and i hope it gets it fixed

Hey thanks for all the help.

The problem was a bad wire from the "ON" switch to the relay. Its working again.

Hello, I’ve recently had the same issue and have discovered that my ac compressor isn’t getting power either. Ive checked the fuse and replaced the relay, and still no power. I’ve narrowed it down to this, the red and blue wire going to the ac relay do not have a proper ground, where is the ground wire for this?
