Ignition switch wiring help-96 A/T
Anyone know what the wiring is at the plug on the fuse box for the ignition switch? I found 4 out of 5 using alarm diagrams.
I need to know what the white/black stripe wire is for.
I already have:
white=12V
yellow=accessory
black/white stripe=starter
black/yellow stripe=ignition
I'm trying to troubleshoot an occassional no crank from position three. And until I get the money for a new switch and tumbler, I want to know what I can do to jump the car if it finally doesn't start. Auto tranny.
Or.... with the key in position two, can I just jump 12V from the white wire over to the black/white wire to crank the motor?

Re: Ignition switch wiring help-96 A/T (Perfectionist)
No, I'm not stealing it. I know the switch and tumbler are two, I have three sets from my old Civic's, figures.
I just can't afford to replace the wrong part, so I'm trying to troubleshoot the switch first. When I get some cash I'll buy the tumbler because the key feels alittle loose. I just need to know whether I need a switch along with it so I only have to go in there once.
I can't find a push button starter diagram for the Accord either, just Civics. That would work temporarily as a last resort. No, not an S2000 one, if I could buy that, I could buy the new switch!

does it click when it does not start?? or nothing at all happens??
yep if you go from white to black/white you bypass the ign switch..but if it still no go , could be wiring issue or the neutral safety switch ( AT) ..
if it works all the time , it is a bad electr part of the ignit switch
I would just jump power from battery to the starter solenoid wire ( at starter) . if it still no go,, it is a starter issue .

Re: Ignition switch wiring help-96 A/T (Honda-Master)
It may not be the ignition switch after all. I drove the car for about an hour, I stopped to get gas and it wouldn't start. The starter would click once when I turned the key to start, but no other noises. Tapping the solenoid didn't help.
I left the car at the gas station and drove another car for work. I came back to the Accord after 7 hours of sitting, turned the key and it fired right up.
The other day I swapped in another main relay I keep in the car when I was having intermitant starting/ no sart. The other main relay made no difference.
I'm thinking it's a relay or the starter itself that when the car gets fully warmed up, inside and out, doesn't work. But then when allowed to cool down, it works. Does this sound fimiliar to anyone?
I will be removing the starter and having it checked when I can. I see what info I can find on the nuetral safety switch.

i am having similar issues as you, just that my car won't even start. i have a good battery, good starter (starter was tested good at auto zone) was able to cranck the motor by jumper the starter at the starter. i tried jumping the black/white and white with key in #2 position all it does is turn on everything else but the car. am i missing something? do i need to jump another wire to actually start the car?

Do all of your cluster lights come on as usual? Does the fuel pump prime and check engine light go on then off?
Mine is still intermittant, it only does this when the car is warmed up, so I'm still troubleshooting.

everything else is working all lights come on. The problem is going from #2 position to #3, once i go to #3 position there is nothing. You think a posible bad ignition switch?

Measure with a volt meter. Start at the plug on the fuse box and measure for volyage on the black/white wire (I think) when the key is turned to position three, then continue down the line to the starter.
Check the wires at the starter for 12v when the key is in position 3 also.

from what you have described it sounds like the contact switch part of the ignition switch is worn out, there lil copper contacts that wear after time, so as long as the tumbler is turning ok then replace the contact part of the switch, its around 40-25 dollars depending on where you look.

Re: Ignition switch wiring help-96 A/T (m735is)
I've narrowed mine down to the middle relay above the fuse box (under dash). If I reach up and push on the relaywhile turning the key, the car starts. I'll have to get up in there and see why it's not making contact, or if the fuse box is faulty.
It's not the actual relay, I've tried two.
Anyone know what this relay sends power to, obviously the starter somehow, but specifically. Or what the relay is actually called?
