ignition switch or what

ignition switch or what
97 accord has problem with turning key to the start position gets stuck. If you wiggle the key it will catch and start. This is not the main problem a pita but not bad. The real problem is the car stalls when driving. I checked out you tube there is a great video on how to diagnose and change the switch. One part says to turn the car to the number 2 position and dash lights will come on in my case they don't but will if you wiggle the key, Do you think its just the switch of the whole key and ignition system? thank s for any help

Re: ignition switch or what
My 99 Civic has a similar issue, 8 out of 10 times turning the key the dash lights will come on, the other two times they won't.
I tried wiggling the keys but in my case that didn't help, I have to turn it to off then back to run to get the lights on the dash to come on.
It will, as well die at random while driving, but seeing as it only happens to my mother-in-law while she's driving, I don't know if the dash lights turn off as if the ignition was turned off. (Engine and SRS lights stay on while running )
but she did say that she has to turn the key off, then back on. and that the needles all drop.
so I'm suspecting the ignition switch.
When i get home today, I'll tear into it and post what i find.
--edit--
I pulled the ignition switch off and found that the contacts were worn in such a way that even a minor bump or giggling of the keys will move the contact onto the plastic surface next to it.
So in my case at lest, its just the switch that I'll have to replace.
Hope this helps.
