Someone Sticky this....

So... the distributor seal arrived. I went and looked at my car again. It stopped leaking. Now what is that? I haven't yet opened the distributor to check for oil inside, but I am pretty sure there will be none.

Should I still go ahead and replace the seal or let sleeping demons sleep?

well, you replaced the o-ring right? so that was bad, you fixed it and now oil doesn't leak outside the distributor. It probably wont leak to the inside of the distributor if it doesn't make it past the o-ring.

So I spent $17 for the seal that may not need replacing? Ouch!

I finally got mine done. I brought it to a shop who used a vise to push out the pin. Once it was out they replaced the seal and pushed in the pin again. The operation took about 5 minutes.

Yeah, they've done quite a few of it in the past.

I replaced a coolant hose by removing the distributor to get to the heater hose. When they put it back on the car didn't start. I figured that it had to do with the fact, it hadn't start/driven the car in 4 weeks. So I floor the accelerator and it evenally started up. After that I get extremlely poor acceleration, I am assume that I must have accidentaly rotate distributor it 180 when I initated installed it. I believe my timing is off as well. How would correct this problem.

For correcting the timing, the best way is to use a timing gun (timing light). During the inspection and setting process, you need to short the service check connector behind the glove box. Check manual for detail process.

Alternately, even it is not recommended, you can use you ear to judge if the engine is running OK while turning the distributor for a good timing. This way can not set the timing precisely and will need a lot of experience.

I have a leak which appear below my car. When I changed out the cap about 3 months ago, I did not see any massive amount of oil in the distributor. However the leak seems to be outside and down toward the tranny. I check oil every day and it's not going down.
Do you guys think replacing the o-ring is sufficient, or do I need to replace the inner seal too? I have bought both parts. I am afraid to open the distributor and find out the bearing is going and need a new distributor. I need the car to go to work every day so ordering a new distributor would make my car down for a few days. The dealer want $405 for a new distributor. Any where I can buy the distributor cheaper?

I'm going to try this this weekend. I just got the seal and Oring yesterday. Do you think an average joe can do this or shall I just bring it to the mechanic?

I'm afraid that I might mess up the timing. lets say that I mess up the timing, will the car still run?

If you remember to scribe a line from the head onto the distributor housing with a screwdriver or permanent marker, before you loosen the dist, you won't have to worry about the timing. Just line the marks up when you put it back together. The distributor only fits onto the end of the cam one way. It would be very hard to screw it up.

I did check engine electrical, but I did the search with out the 'all parts'. I called Partstrain and spoke with a representative. They advised they had no such seal. I've now found it utilizing the 'all parts' selection window. Here's the link should anyone need it. Thanks again for your help.

Are all the internal seals the same for f22b1/2 f22a? Because in partstrain they list Accord 1986-2002(!!) for that part.

I am almost certain either one will do, but you can go to the Honda dealership and get a Honda OEM one for $3 or $4 bucks just bought one a couple days ago. Now I am trying to track down that internal seal. Good Luck.
