HELP! Rev Goes up and down
On Thursday my rev was going up and down when i was at a stop light. after that it went to normal. then on Sunday it did it again for less than a minute of driving then went back to normal. i feel no different when driving. what can cause this to happen?
The only problems i know i have now is that my distributor rotor is being help with super glue(more than a year with problem). those two days it was hot could the glue be melting? Also i have a hole on my coolant overflow bottle( the fluid is near the max line).
Car is 1997 accord lx v6

Why in the hell did you super glue your damn rotor!? That's really janky.
You're idle is surging. Check for vacuum leaks, or a dirty idle valve.

Re: HELP! Rev Goes up and down
Put on the disi rotor the proper way and fix/replace the overflow bottle, because those are basic mantainance things that should be done before you have a problem.
As for the idle surging, spray brake cleaner on your manifold to check for leaks and clean your IAC valve

lol Im going get that fixed real soon.
the IAC valve is the one with the black cap that says "denso" on it? and how would i clean it?
also when u say "spray brake cleaner on your manifold to check for leaks" do u mean everywhere or just around the IAC? there so many hoses that i cant tell which ones are the vacuum hoses. sorry im new to this.

yup that's the IAC. As for the brake cleaner, spray it everywhere. Focus on the gasket areas and vacuum hoses. If you don't know if it's a vacuum hose or not, just sray it anyways. It won't cause any damage

Re: HELP! Rev Goes up and down
Just remove the idle valve and clean it, there are tons of writeups for this question. You can also remove your throttle body and clean your FITV as well.

Re: HELP! Rev Goes up and down
Well it worked for me. After cleaning the IAC valve and replacing the gasket, I grabbed some parts cleaner and started spraying the gasket areas and hoses. That's how I found my leak.

Make sure if you are going to go spraying your engine with brake or parts cleaner that it is safe for use on plastics and rubber.... I have seen some brake cleaners do some nasty stuff to hoses and seals.

Re: HELP! Rev Goes up and down
Ya, I would just use carb or throttle body cleaner since it's more designed to be introduced into the intake to find vacuum leaks. If it's me, I just be more safe and spray a fine mist of water. A FINE mist.
Hey Ghost, he has the integrated FITV and IACV combo, right ? How different is that to clean out than ours ?

If it were an RACV (F23*) there is really no different process for cleaning. The bonus would be that there is only one valve to clean verses us having to clean two.

Re: HELP! Rev Goes up and down
i checked for vacumm leak and the hoses seem fine. i cleaned the idle valve and throttle body still the same. but i found a crack on the air filter box where it connects to the throttle body. its not that big but u can see the inside. could this be it?
the rmp doesnt go up and down anymore only happen twice. now when i start the car the rmp starts at 1500 then when i put it on drive it goes to 1000 then 30sec later goes to 600 rmp.

Re: HELP! Rev Goes up and down
I know you mentioned your radiator overflow has fluid, but did you check the actual radiator to see if it is full? My 95 was having the same issue and found out the radiator was nearly empty (had a leak). After filling it up the idle was fine.

Re: HELP! Rev Goes up and down
if the leak is before the throttle body it will not be the cause of your issues...if you're 100% certain you have no vacuum leak then I would guessitmate the iacv is bad or your base idle is too high
