Head bolt torque disaster
Hi folks,
So... perhaps *possible* disaster. We'll see. I need some advice from the good folks here.
Work has kept me busy, but I finally had time to put the head back on. I had a new set of head bolts, got 'em started, then went to the first bolt with my clicky torque wrench. 29 lbs-ft. Ok, next one (the long one)... ok, seems like it's taking a sec... um... this seems way too tight... OH GOD my torque wrench won't click!
So I backed out both bolts and realized the mechanism in my torque wrench had hung up. ****.
The good news: I got the torque wrench working again after messing with it on my work bench.
The bad news: I don't know if I've done damage to anything (like the head or gasket), and I don't know if I should re-use that one bolt. I figure it got up to 50 lbs-ft before I realized something was wrong.
Please advise. Thanks!
