Hard time getting 92 Accord LX to shift out of Park
Yeah, it's me again. I got another little problem but nothing too serious. I have a very hard time getting my car to shift into and out of park. Once I get it shifted out of park it will move fine through the other gears, but once I want to push it back into park, it's a real pain. I mean, I've got to really freaking jerk the shifter in and out, so much that I'm afraid one day my hand is going to slip off the shifter, punch through my much coveted head unit, and then I'll have to go climb a bell tower with a gun slung over my back and yada yada yada. I'm not too familiar with cars, but I can do simple mechanical stuff. So if anyone knows what's up, I'd appreciate it.

I have a similar problem with my '90. I'm pretty sure its the foot brake solenoid or relay or something. When I stop the car, and shift to park, as long as I wait 10-30sec until the green light comes on around the "P" in the instrument cluster then I know I can shift out anytime. If I don't wait, I sometimes have to wait a few minutes for the problem to clear.
This doesn't sound like your problem. You problems sounds more like a shift linkage issue.
I am curious though, have you been good about maintenance? at least every 30K miles? is your fluid at the proper level?

i have the same problem on mine, only on cold mornings and when the car is cold.
when it warms up and after a drive, when i put it in park, it goes in nice and easy.
i was told it was the shift cable, but would like a second opinion because it cost an arm, a leg, and a left nut for this job.
haha well not that much, but would like to make sure its the cable before getting anything
done
thanks

well first start by cleaning some stuff that might be stuck near the shifter.
2. it might be the lock selenoid
3. the shift cable might be going bad.
check the manual and it will show how to do #2 & 3
try to buy the shift cable from a junk jard<<<< from a car that has low miles.
good luck
