92 accord: plug under oil filter leaks..?
Hi guys,
just curious if any of you have knowledge of this plug that seems to be leaking oil on my co-worker's 1992 Accord EX. It is located right under where the oil filter is, and it leaks/drips when the car is running..right onto the downpipe of the exhaust.
i didn't have an allen key/wrench big enough to fit so that i can attempt to tighten it (looks around 10-12mm).
not sure what it's for, so I don't know if it's simply just taking it off, applying some hondabond, and torqing down.
thanks.

Never seen that plug leak, however is really common to see the oil filter base o ring leak. If you remove the oil filter there is a 30mm nut holding it on. If it is infact the plug, remove it and slap some hondabond on it and reinstall. Also the oil pressure sending units are starting to leak more often on these year accords. Good luck.

I can see in that pic that the gasket is leaking at the block behind the oil filter and dripping down. When it comes to oil leaks like that, always clean the block with brake cleaner first, so you know 100% where the leak is coming from, because I believe that the plug is not leaking. If it were leaking, why would there be oil above it? You always check oil leaks from the top, then work your way down after the engine has been cleaned.

thanks for the quick replies.
I actually replaced the valve cover gasket and spark plug ring grommets that day - the gasket was leakin' pretty bad, and also had oil on top of the plugs..eh. Pretty much that whole car is a mess, but when i lifted the car while it was running, there seemed to be a steady drip from that plug i pointed out.
yes, i agree the correct way to diagnose this problem is to clean all the oil mess and then observe where oil is coming from - there were time and space constrictions.
thanks for the suggestions, tho. I'll have to look at it more carefully when i get the chance. I'll let ya'll know what i find.

+1 for the rubber gasket behind the oil filter housing. Although I actually had a crack in my oil filter housing. Go Figure I had replaced the gasket and was so excited that I have fix that dam leak, yet it wasn't the gasket it was oil cooler. Ended up replacing the gasket again it was only 7 bucks at Honda.
