Default H22 Vtec head on F series Block

I've been reading on prelittlelude's post about this for awhile now.. Has anyone in the accord forum pondered on how to do this? Or if its going to be difficult? I have an f23 myself, but wanted to know if anyone knows whether the wiring on an F series (vtec) head will plug up to an H22 head easily.. I think that the H22 has an external coil .. what would need to be done to have an H22 head working on an Accord (vtec)? Any insight would be great.. maybe we can get something going here...

The thing is, it will not make power for N/A application, the dude(good work) did the twin cam head swap because he is running turbo. F series block is cheap as hell, so even if he blew one up, he still have the cash.

I was always under the impression that NA h22 head on f series block would destroy itself in high rev

never did the swap, never even think about doing it so dont quote me

he did have to fab some parts. its not the easiest thing in the world if your not sure of what you are doing. just do the h-swap, something that has been proven. prelittlelude did that so he could boost the crap outta the f block and not worry if it blew.

well.. i dont like the H22 swap because.. 1) i would have to pull out my long block.. were as the h22 head i can keep the block in the bay. 2) The H22 swap is short one bolt for the one of the engine mounts.. 3) There is way more stuff for the H22 head.. IM, Toda Cams, and lets not forget the nice valve cover ..

with an f23 the compression isn't that bad.. if its capable of putting 150 hp at 9.1:1 .. imagine how much it would put out (lets just say at NA) w/ dual cams, intake and exhaust vtec, bigger IM, bigger Throttle body.. its like building an NA f23 but with better parts than you can get for your f23

If you'll notice, most of the pictures taken are outside of the engine bay...if you are looking for an easy way out of a swap, putting the h22 head on is not the way to go

i think its fairly easy.. In the pictures the engine was out cause, the f block didn't come from the prelude and he had the block milled. The only thing that would really need to be done to the f block would be the water pump gear, maybe some tensioners, oil filter cooler .. thats about it.. You can keep the f23 block in the engine bay and work on the head alone.. such as .. port polish, cams, IM gasket, etc..

Anybody have any thoughts?

I assure you that it is possible to do the head swap with it in the car still... You will have to do a LOT of working around things but it is doable... however the down side to NA applications is the low compression... If you used an F23 with an H22 head your compression would be about 9:1, which is awesome for boost but not for all motor... You could buy some pistons but then that is more work and more money and at that point if you are going through the trouble you might as well by an H22, but you would be missing out on a 97mm stroke... Or you could always mill the head and use a thinner headgasket, but I don't know how much that would help you out... My H23 VTEC's compression is about 9.3:1 and IS peppy but it is definitely missing something... BOOST! So at 9:1 it wouldnt be the best na motor but it would be a definite improvement over a stock f23a1....
