Default h22 swap has issues.

Alright so here's the problem. First of all we got a h22a1 obd1 out of a wrecked 94 accord. The accord was a friends and the engine ran beautifuuly in that car. So anyway now we sold the swap to a guy with a 96 accord(obd2). The engines in everything is hooked up right as far as we know we got a obd2-1 harness off ebay and switched the wires and added vtec all that good stuff. So this is what is happenning now. THe car starts but you have to give it gas or it will idle rough, stall, spin backwards, shoot air out the intkae and then finnaly die. Its also got check engine light but we tried plugging in diagnostics to read the code but we just get a blank screen its a jdm comp. We're also using the accord f22 map swrewed to the firewall with vaccuum hose going to the intake manifold where map plugs up. This is our first h22 install and we basically are out of ideas and have no where to begin troubleshooting. Any info/advise will be very much appreciated.

converted to five speed via accord tranny

used reader with accord comp

don't know alot about accords or accord swaps where's idle screw, I believe its a p73 jdm comp for auto tranny, and the cel jumping method what's that?

If it drives did we do the WHOLE changeover It's using a auto tranny computer but we have the same problem with the accord obd2 computer

well you need to get off the automatic tranny ecu and put in the manuel h22 ecu

your ecu is telling the car to shift when your now five speed! the obd2 computer is both ecu and tcu!

if i get what your saying, that would help~

you need to use a five speed tranny and computer..

distrubtor also if its obd2 self changes, going to obd1 would need to to be done manual, so you might need to check that dizzy and fix that~

f22 stock ecu is a sohc ecu..

your now running a dohc engine, which fuel, timing and other stuff all have changed. also there are more sensors and features with the h22 that you are having no control of with the f22 ecu. vaccum and secondary butterflies, etc.

if the car was already manual do not sure an automatic ecu~

if the engine is obd1 you need to convert to obd1.

if its afive speed, you use the obd2-1 harness and make sure they switched the heater/egr two pins..
if its a basic obd2-1 harness that wasnt done! only accord and preludes have these wires switched.. all civic , tegs and everyone else dont.. so you got to make sure its done!

every harness we sell, we have to phsycally change them for the customer if they use a lude or accord.

only thing i can say, is go look at your basic h22 swap write ups. make sure you didt it all and did it correcty

check the CEL for goodness sake, if the reader dont read it, then jump it with a wire and count the codes that way~

you have xxx amount of sensors that are there and that ecu will not tell them to do anything

h22 has a lot more features/sensor on the motor, you AUTOMATIC accord ecu will not look for them, thus they dont do jack..

so the ecu is telling your motor to run off automatic timing and fuel curves specs..

all i am going to say from here on:

get the right ecu!

automatic ecu
get the ecu made for your motor

and CHECK YOUR CEL!!

I'm sorry if I confused you so I'll reexplain. It's a 1996 (obd2) accord lx with manual transmission. Installed was a 1994 jdm prelude motor (obd1) with auto tranny computer. we used the accord manual tranny on the h22 so what's in it right now is 1996 accord lx with 1994 h22 mounted to 1996 manual tranny running off of a 1994 prelude obd1 automatic transmission comp.

even worse.. the automatic tranny computer (TCU) only has 2 plugs.. you sure thats what your running?

automatic obd1 car has two computers
a ecu for the motor
a tcu for the tranny

obd2 car uses one ecu
it has both combined together..

your getting there.. still need more info~

i suspect that the car is a 5spd and the ENGINE computer is from an auto prelude. which is NOT an issue.

you need to jumper to get the check engine light to flash, an OBD2 scan tool will nto work, so onc eyou can jumper and see the engine light flas i bet it will flash for code 12 and 41 at least. maybe more, but i would check the pinouts on the harness through the obd2-1 jumper since if it was built for a civic it wont cover things like egr systems usually. and even if it does the egr and o2 sensor heater on an accord is usually switchd as far as pins compared to every other honda too.

what you need to do first is check the codes though.

thankyou for finally understanding what my setup and problem was. I guess that checking the codes is really the best place to start I just am not sure how to "jumper an ecu"

on an obd1 car you ahve a 2 pin jumper above the ecu behind the kick panel, i THINK some obd2 cars do as well. anyway if you have this blue 2 wire plug, you can put a piece of wire on the plug to connect it and count the flashes of the check engine light. I usually have ot hunt around on line and ifnd the 2 pins on teh obd2 diagnostic olug that you can connect and view the lights that way as well.
