Default Fast-Idle speed on 95 Accord F22b2

Ever since we got my wife's 95 Accord, when you start it up for the first time in the morning, the idle speed seems too high. As soon as the engine fires up, it jumps up to 1800-1900 rpm, and almost jerks when it fires up. My 93 civic idles at around 1300 rpm under the same conditions. I know it cant be good for the engine to start that way.

I am going to check the FITV in the morning to see if there is a problem. If I see that there is and can fix it, what speed should the engine idle at upon start-up? Is that even a spec that is listed, like regular idle speed, ignition timing, etc.

Can anyone give me an idea, link to a thread, at least a hint?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

well you could have a vacuum leak...that can cause high rpms on idle...and you can adjust the idle very easily...im not sure on your car but there should be a piece on ur vacuum to where u can control it

i would not be too worried about that....only if it loops then there is cause for concern. In the middle of the winter my '94 starts at 2200 and works it's way down

my 98 starts at 1500 and works it's way down

Usually takes about 2 mins for each car to come down in idle.....

that is a normal conditions as it was told you by some other members,, heck if you live in a very cold winter climate the fast idle could be as high as 2500 -3000 rpms , depends where it is set at..
As long as rpm go down and engine idles around 700-800 when engine is warm it is ok....

After is warms up, it idles perfectly. There's no problem with the high idle, other than is being a little higher than normal. It just feels so rough or jerky when it first fires up. I did pull the FITV off yesterday and everything seemed to be in good shape, I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Thanks for the replies
