Default Electrical: Radio/Cig Lighter, NOT Fuse

Hi All,

1995 Accord LX. Wife tells me that both radio and lighter (used to charge cell phone) suddenly no longer work. Radio is after-market but been in there with no problems for many years; lighter has been used to charge cell phone for 6 mos with no problems. First guess was fuse (under hood), as both are on the same one. Sure enough it was blown, and I replaced it. This did not solve the problem, however. Upon further investigation, I noticed that the chager had broken off inside the lighter socket. I used needle-nose pliers to pull the pieces out, but still neither the radio nor lighter work.

Ideas? Some event that blew the fuse also caused other problem?

Thanks,
Daryl.

Backup Radio/Antenna fuse in the in-car fuse box near driver's footwell

Thanks for your reply. I already checked the back-up radio fuse, and it is good.

Other ideas?

Check the fuse box by the dead pedal, you may find a burnt one there.

did you recheck the backup fuse under the hood after you pulled the piece out of the lighter? i assume you did but if not do that again. check it with a DMM it could look fine but actually be broken.

Well the radio and cigarette are on the same circuit. There's only a chance of a few issues since they both don't have power.

1) The fuse under the hood for the radio/cigarette
2) Backup Antenna/Radio/Cigarette under the dash driver's side
3) Check voltage at the radio to see if it's getting power
4) Check voltage at fuse box
5) Check for randomly stripped/grounded wires

You say you checked the backup antenna fuse but I think you are confusing it with the one under the hood.

Did you recheck the fuse under the hood after pulling the remains of the charger out of the lighter? If the charger caused the fuse to blow, it probably blew the new one as well when you turned the power on to see if the replacement fixed the problem.

Spot on. Cstone and Mick FLeetwood's call of re-checking the new fuse because it had re-blown was the answer that worked here.

THANK YOU so much to all of you for taking the time to answer my question- MuffinMan, STi-Thrill, Cstone, Fleetwood, and anyone else I might have missed.
