Default looking at a 2000 Accord, what issues do they have?

Looking at getting a used Accord, most likley 2000 model year. Are there any issues that I should look for? any TSB's or recalls that I should be aware of?
I would most likley get a 4-cylinder. I know they have had bad trannys as one of the problems, how could i tell if it was going?

thanks

By your title, I've just GOT to ask ....... is that BC or AD???

Here's a link you might find useful
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/

or do a CarFax inquiry if you've got the VIN, and a credit card.
A call, or trip to your local Honda dealer with the vin number and you can ask them directly about any open recalls. (they're more than happy to help)

Some accords, esp V6s, have tranny problems. All automatic transmissions may have this problem, it's mostly a matter of chance. Some do, some dont, and V6s have it more commonly. There's also a bulletin concerning the ignition, where the key can be removed while driving I believe.

Yes there is a 2nd gear inspection on most 2003 up v6 models and a numerous amount or ignition recalls (type A or B) depending on the ignition manufacture and type of problem you have. Key can be removed while in gear or not. Otherwise I have not seen a lot of issues with the 6th gens.
Depends a lot on previous owner on how good of shape it is in.

For all the suggestions, you've pretty much got it covered.
From my experiences, most recall repairs are performed without any related failures, and of the failures that did occure; they were early in the life of the vehicle. Generally, if somethings' to break, it won't be long after the in-service date.
The maintaince records can be important, as is the warranty history. Get them if you can. You might even arrange for a certified tech to look over the car before you put down your cash.
More than likely you'll be looking at a car with no issues. Honda's find themselves on the used car market from not only lease returns but trade-ins as prior owners trade into current year Accords, ect.

I just talked to a local guy who is selling a 2000 Accord Lx. It has 120k on it with the original timing belt. He said he has other work records, but im not sure what.
There are very few used accords for sale are here, but i am leary about this one.
It may be fine if the belts are changed.
He was asking $7500

I'd suggest a Kelly Bluebook search for your Accord. It will give you an idea of what the average retail (private to private) sale price is in your area.
Take that value and subtract what it will cost for the T'belt job (Very Important) and that should give you how good the asking price is.

Here's the link to Kelly's Blue Book:

Anyone know what a "safe millage' would be to know if the tranny is going to go bad or not? I found a 99 accord with only 78k, but the 99's arent in the extended warranty for the tranny
