Hello all,
I am going to be replacing the distributor on my 92 Accord and wanted to make sure I had the general procedure right. For removal I'm going to disconnect the connectors and spark plug wires and remove the hold down bolts. Then pull the distributor off. Then I have a new o ring and distributor gasket to replace the old ones, along with the new distributor.
I've heard that I should set the timing, however I don't have a timing light. I do know someone who has one, but they may not be available right away. Is it ok to run the car, or should I install the distributor, see if it starts, then shut if off and wait until my friend can come and help me? The reason I'm replacing the distributor is because it is squeaking and grinding real loudly, and when I pulled the distro cap off there was a coating of red dust throughout. Does this look about right?

Looks about right...add disconect battery to be sure-lube the new oring with oil. Without a light, you might want to set it to #1 tdc once the plugs are out, just easier to spin it over, mark-draw maps-whatever- and put the new one in as close to those as you can. Pretty sure the tab/tang/drive is offset so it only goes in one way. Then as soon as you can check the timing with the light and proper procedure-I think, sorry don't have the book handy, you have to jump the service connector when checking or adjusting the timing.
