Default Depressurizing the fuel line before fuel filter replacement?

I'm about to replace my fuel filter and a buddy of mine told me that I have to take the pressure out of thefuel line beofre I do so, well I asked him how I did that and he said he did not know, he just heard that from someone else at another time. Well, that what i'm here for. I'm wondering if this statement is correct and if it is how do I go about doing so.

Thank You.

not a big deal... there is a service port on one of the rail... just loosen the nut slowly and it will blead off the pressure.

Wrap a rag aroung the service bolt/wrench to catch the excess fuel. Don't loosen it too quick and be careful it doesn't spray in your eye...

Thank you all for the very helpful advice.

I also heard something else that I forgot put put in myleading post, but would I have to goto my fuse box and un-hook the fuel pump fuse or whatever and turn my car on and let the fuel just run out?

you guys sure do this the hard/messy/smelly way.

I pull the fuse to the fuel pump and start her up, it'll die in a couple seconds and voila... empty fuel rail.
