Default Cold Weather = Horn randomly going off, like WTF?

Posting here because the CL is close to an Accord

Well, it got really cold here last night...5 or 6 degrees and with the wind chill -10 or so.

At 4:30 am I was awakened by the police telling me my 'alarm' was going off. Actually, the car horn in my CL 2.3 was just going, constantly.

I had to run down to the car, and beat on the horn a little to get it to stop. Welp, happened 2 hours later (6:30am) and 1/2 hour after that (7am) so finally I just started the car and let it warm.

Seems my steering wheel cover shrunk because of the cold and was pressing in the horn switch I guess. When warm, its fine...soon as it cools, constant horn.

Anyone ever heard of anything like this? Anyone recommend a fix?

I'm stumped

While not related to Honda's... I had a somewhat similar experience with my boxster. While driving the horn would just randomly go off for no particular reason. After awhile I deemed it would only happen going over bumps. Turned out the pressure or plate or something was bad. That could be your problem if it is setup similarly.

it is the exact problem you diagnosed in your original post, basically a product of the weather and therefore something that is hard to fix...you can take it to the dealership and ask them about it, usually something like that is interesting to them...

Yeah I think its the switch mechanism inside the wheel cover. Not sure how much of a bitch it is going to be to fix/replace it but for now I just disconnected the horns by the connector.

My blinkers are doing the weird honda thing though...maybe because the proper resistance isnt on the horn/brake light circuit.

Weird...I gotta wait til it gets a little warmer before I tear into this thing to figure it out.
