93 accord antenna mast replacement HELP!
I bought the part today and tried to put it in.
I can not get the special nut off, which it the first thign that needs to be removed.
Is there a special tool I should be using?
I tried using a screw driver on it, but it was no go.
How do I get it off?

there is a special tool to get it off. i say take it to a dealership and have them remove it. they may charge you for it but i do not see why it would be all that expensive since it should only take a minute or 2

You'll need the antenna nut socket or a pair of snap ring pliers (internal or exteral will work). If the mast is corroded or if a piece of the white plastic cable has broken off inside the antenna, you would be better off taking it to someone who knows how to make the repairs.

Where can I acquire this antenna nut socket?

Unfortunately you are correct and the mast cable has snapped off.
Now my question is, can I still fix it myself?

I have had to take them apart to get the remnants of the white plastic out of the motor. It's easy, like a few screws and it comes apart.

I had to do this for my '94 EX. Tried to see if I could salvage the motor and stuff. Once I got the whole unit out and apart, it looked as if someone througha grenade in there. SO I said ***** and bought an aftermarket replacement antenna.

The antenna mast cost like $60.
I was talking to a friend today and he told me his friend bought an aftermarket antenna mast with motor for $30.
I'm kinda leaning towards th aftermarket part and ditching the OEM antenna mast and saving the extra labor.

Pros: Cheap.
Cons: Worse reception than factory, ugly top mount assembly, louder.

I went to Honda, they do not sell this part.
They used to, that's where I got mine.

When I asked at teh counter for it he said they didn't sell it.
They had a technician come out and loosen it for me with snap ring pliers.
I then wet to OSH and bought a pair myself to tighten it back up.
Heck I've been without radio for 5 yrs now in my car. I think I'll ust leave it alone.
Unless it's not too much hassle to take out the quarter panel in the trunk to get to the motor.
is it?

Well school started so I haven't had time to get in there.
I know its easy to take the motor out of th trunk, but am I in for a big hassle when I take the motor apart to fish out the rest of that mast?

no it should be a easy fix just remove the broken pieces and put it back together turn on the radio and when you turn it off put the antenna in it and it will suck it down and your done !

I have a 91 wagon with the same problem. Mast broke off but the motor seems to run fine.
Has anyone done this with a wagon and if so, how does the motor assy come out? I have taken the top nut off and looked for nuts on the motor part but cannot see anything but its still being held tight to the car so something is still holding it on.
I work on airplanes for a living and this one is worse than they are! No room to get in and no way to see the bottom part of the motor.
Can I buy just the mast assy and replace it or is it worth it?
TIA,
JA

I bought a replacement antenna on Ebay for 38 bucks. Guy emailed me instructions and it took about 30 minutes.

Just found that guy this afternoon on Ebay. Were you happy with the antenna and how difficult was it to put it in?
My toothed plastic piece that attaches to the antenna mast is out and in reasonable condition so would hope the same piece that you bought would work on mine.
Thx,
Joe

Also, I think the lead from the radio is corroded onto the antenna, can't get that off. Got the power lead off no problem though.

Re: 93 accord antenna mast replacement HELP! (Stripped Honda)
I just did my 91 Station wagon and it was a breeze. Did not do anything inside the car but just removed the nut on the outside, pulled the old antenna element out. Then compared the length with the new one from the gent on Ebay and after lubing it put it back in and its worked great for a couple of weeks now.
No special tools needed but used two screwdrivers, one on each side of the antenna and the nut came right off.
