Default Can loss of backpressure in exhaust cause car to idle improperly?

well, as some of you have read, i was having tons of issues with my idle. i just had the header rewelded back to my exhaust because of an exhaust leak there. now the car seems to idle properly. im wondering if the loss of backpressure from the exhuast could have caused the car to stall while in neutral. any ideas?

It may have tricked the O2 sensor into richening the A/F ratio to the point where it just stalled due to adding too much fuel. I'm not sure. Just a suggestion.
