automatic shifting
i was reading the owners manual and it says you can upshift and downshift from D1 - D2 - D3 - D like a manual mtx. Will doing this constantly be bad for the atx transmission?

That is retarded, honestly, don't do it
1 - limits the car to 1st gear
2 - limits the car to only 2nd gear
D3 - 3rd gear
D4 - 4th gear
D4 goes through all the gears on its own, no reason to "shift" like that. The owners manual says it's ok to do that for instances like bad weather (shift from D4 to D3) and 2 for like snow and 1 for ice, not to consistantly "shift"

Re: (Alpinestar03)
i agree with the others that are against it. just get a stick or convert it like the rest of us did. its not that hard. even though the manual says it don't mean its okay for repeative usage. thats like saying its okay to treat a pit bull bad. eventually it will won't take it anymore and get you. an automatic is an auto, let it do it job to be effective.

Re: (flight50)
i used to shift mine manually - mainly just betwen 3 and 4, because i'm cool, and i liked keeping the revs up downtown, then hitting overdrive on the freeways.
THEN i kept accidentally throwing it in neutral getting on the freeway because i was so used to bumping it up, i'd forget where i was.. . .
AND most of the times i was getting on it hard and shifting from 1 up, (because i'm cool) the damned thing kept it in gear longer than i did before shifting - i'd bump it up and it'd stay in gear for a few hundred more revs.. . .
SO i learned that the car is smarter than the driver and you should let it do what it does and concentrate on not hitting stuff

some of you guys are on crack or something
1. manually shifting an auto will not hurt it
2. with the exception of 2nd gear on most cars, the trans does not lock you into the gear you selected, it prevents the trans from going into a gear higher than you selected.
On some cars if you hit the rev limiter while in manual matic (TL and CL for example) the car will disregard your request to keep it in a specific gear and shift to next gear.
3. If manually shifting is so bad for an auto, why would car makers install it on cars?

haha, it won't hurt it technically if you do it properly, however when people do what I'm guessing they're doing
(redlining in 1, shifting to 2, redlining, shifting to D3, redlining shifting to D4)
in an effort to "race" lol that's not good
Not calling you retarded or anything but it was put in cars mainly for weather purpose not for the manual matic lol.
And yes sorry I didn't clarify, if the car is in 2, it will shift from 1 to 2 and stay locked in 2.
