I replaced the master and slave cylinders for the clutch, connceted all the lines, poured brake fluid into the reservoir, attached a bleeder line to the open bleeder valve on the slave, and pumped the clutch -- but could not get any pressure.

Are there any steps or tricks that I am missing? (Is trapped air the problem?)

The reason there is no pressure is because there is air in the line....when you put the hose onto the bleeder screw, you put the open end of the hose into a small container of brake fluid. You'll notice bubbles and such because of the air....and after a bit, the brake fluid will come out and you close the bleeder screw and you're set.

What size of hose did you use?

The setup with bleeder hose and brake fluid bottle was all in place. I just had to follow the "keep on pumping, honey," advice.
