Icon2 Accord valve seal replace

99 Honda Accord EX 4 cyl vtec, I am about to replace the valve seals while the head is still on the car. I was wondering if you have any pointers for the best way to do this. The Haynes Manual says to remove the timing belt? is this necessary? I don't have a big air compressor so I will probably use the rope trick to hold the valves up which means I will need to rotate the crank shaft to move pistons to TDC, will the cam stay put?

Also when I am worried about bending a valve while putting the valve train back on, do the valve lash adjusters have enough thread to completely back off so all of the valved are closed before removing/installing rocker assymbly?

Thanks

You've gotta remove the timing belt because you have to remove the camshaft and the entire rocker arm assembly. I do em all the time, it's super easy, just make sure your air compressor can keep a constant pressure (some valves leak) and make sure you have the right tools because a lot of guys go in thinking they can do it, but find out that they can't get the keepers back on once they've taken them off because their on-the-car valve spring compressors are crap.

Slomofo, thanks for the response. I was under the impression that that the roker assymbly could come off and the cam could just stay where it is (2.3 vtec single cam in the middle below the rockers).

The air compressor is where the trouble comes in...I have a small one but I am afraid to trust it for this repair especially since I suspect #4 primary intake valve to be leaking from excessive oil rundown (hence the valve seal job). So I really need to be able to move each cyl to do the rope trick.

What on-head valve spring compressor tool do you recommend? I just got one from the local Autozone but have yet to use it.
