Default ac compressor vibration

Here's my problem, any help would be appreciated. When the a/c is turned on there is a slight but noticeable vibration thru the car, likely originating at the compressor. The belt is tight, all the compressor mounting bolts/nuts are tight and the pulley has no noticeable wobble when gripped and flexed (there is no flexing). Car has 154000 miles, the ac has never been serviced and does cool fine, the air is cold and the blower motor strong. At one time there was a sponge that worked it's way down to the blower motor, from the dash, thru the defrost vent I think, it has been removed. Disconnecting the blower motor will the a/c is running does not eliminate the vibration. Is there possibly a problem internally with the compressor that would cause this? And yes, the vibration goes away when the a/c is turned off.

The car is a '98 Accord LX 4dr 2.L 4cyl with VTEC and automatic transmission.

Thanks again for any comments.

it could be something internal. but it seems to be just the load that is being put on the motor when the ac is kicked on.

92jdmcb7,

Thanks for the response. I should add that the vibration was not always this noticeable. In my first post I think I understated the amount of vibration as slight, more like light. Switching between off and on positions, it is quite noticeable. So if it is something internal, any idea what that might be? I assume the fix would be to replace the compressor??
