What oil and oil filter should I use with my 2000? V.stupid NooB question
I'm new to the forum, and I have just picked up my first Honda (a 2000 accord 5speed 2 door) and I just have a few questions about the general maintenance of the car. I have owned a V8 mustang for the last several years and knew all of the ins and outs of the mustang world, but now that I have sold that I need a few tips about getting started with this car. Thanks for the help

oil filter: OEM honda(make sure it;s made in japan, candian oem filter which is cheaper is made by fram), Moble1, K&N
stay away from low end fram, the high high fram is fine but the cheap one is known for paper element blowing up into pieces.
i think your motor oil cap said 5w20, some people would perfer running 10w30 which is thicker(lower viosity) in older motor to prevent leaks but it will slightly decrease gas mileage.
moble1 is always good, btw anyone tried the new extender performance 15000 miles oil yet?

Also do you know how many quarts of oil the car takes?</TD></TR></TABLE>
are you talking about the extended protection stuff? they are from moble
to my surprise, they only cost 6buck

if you have a carquest nearby, they have great oil filters, at a good price too. also their carquest brand valvoline in a bottle is like a $1.60 a quart here in Raleigh. I think there is also a seller on here selling the HAMP green honda oil filters from japan

Your '00 5-speed is an I4 of course (they didn't make 5-speed V6's at that time). Thus, your oil capacity is 4.5 quarts. Which oil to use? I use Castrol GTX in my '99 5-speed I4 (76,000 miles). Some like Mobil 1, I don't see the reason to use it in this engine; I do use Mobil 1 in my '93 Volvo because that engine is a turbo and runs a little hotter.
Which filter? Just pick up Honda OEM filters. You can buy them online for ~ $4.50 or $5 from places online - be sure to get new drain plug washers also (just $0.20 or so each).
Spark plugs? I believe that people on this board like NGK; in the past I just took whatever the guy at Autozone gave me (not the cheap ones, but not the most expensive ones either). Next time I will get NGK plugs. (In ’99 the maintenance on the I4 requires new plugs every 30,000 miles, starting in ’00 they went to 100,000 miles “no tune-up service life” – this is why I’ve changed my plugs a couple of times already)
