Trunk Release Mechanism

Trunk Release Mechanism
Hello all,
I was hoping to get some help on how to fix an annoying problem. My trunk opens with the drivers side latch and key only. The remote will not release the trunk. It just stopped one day. I bought a new remote from the dealer and the same issue is present.
I was wondering if it was the trunk release mechanism that needs replacing, or something else. Has anyone had any experience and/or know how to fix this? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Trunk Release Mechanism
there should be an actuator mounted to the latch mechanism. unplug it and use a test light to check the harness socket for voltage when the remote button is pressed. if there is no voltage, there is a problem with the remote sensor/relay circuit. If you have voltage with the button pressed, the actuator is almost certainly bad, so test the actuator with wires run from your battery. if you don't get any movement, check the continuity through the actuator with a multimeter to see if there is an open circuit. if so, replace the actuator. if there is a short through the actuator, a fuse should be blown already. it's not necessary to check for continuity if you have voltage at the harness connector, but it's a double-check just in case you had bad battery connections when hot-wiring it.
