Default 97 ACCORD STEERING CLICK???

I have a 97 accord and my steering clicks only when i turn the steering wheel when NOT moving? Any ideas?

axles and boots seem to be fine and makes no noise when moving or around corners with sharp turns?

Does it bind up? (can you feel it in the steering wheel?) It is mentioned somewhere in the manual that you should wait until the car starts rolling slightly before you start to turn the wheel. It puts a lot less strain on the steering components and pump.

If it sounds to be coming from directly in front of the steering wheel, you could have a problem with the directional cancelling mechanism (switch)

No binding at all and steering is strong when i turn it.....just clunk clunk anytime i go to the other side.....example when i turn right from center clunk......then when i go to turn to left side clunk ..... could it be rack n pinion?

I've never run into it on a Honda (GM, yes), but it sounds like the steering rack shifts in it's mounts when it has to push hard against the steering knuckle. Rather than the wheel moving first, the rack moves (takes up the slack) and then the wheel moves.

Just like GM, Honda locates the rack using Bolts and Bushings (#19,20,21) on one end, and supports it on the other end with a collar and surround grommet (#4,5,6).
They get damaged (soft and swell up) from fluid leaks.

Have a second person eyeball the rack as you turn the wheel from right to left. He should see NO movement.
