Hello everyone, Im new to this forum, I just had my mechanic change the timing belt on my 97 accord EX wagon 176,000 miles and now the car runs rough @ high rpms, is not even shifting right, it doesnt feel the same, could it be they tighten the belt too much?? I have no clue what is going on, any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

If the belt is too tight, you'll have a whurring noise.

THanks Nus....there is no noise, it just runs rough.....they moved the distributor a little bit and it got a little better, but still runs rough, specially when Im in the highway....I read it could be the balance belt is either too tight or not installed correctly....could this be it?

Or did the mechanic not line up the timing marks.......TDC is your friend!

I don't think its your balancer belt at all because I've tighten those balancer belt soo tight that they created that whurring noise(very loud at idle). I didn't feel any roughness. Just naturally let the tensioner do the tension, do not push or add any pressure to get the balancer belt tight.

Have you done any tune up lately? spark plugs, wires, and cap?

Hello everyone and thank you for the replies, I took the car back to my mechanic, they took everything apart again, checked belts, tension and according to them everything has been installed correctly, they loosened the timing belt just a little and put everything back together, now the car is running fine.....they probably didn't install it right the first time, but of course they are not going admit to it.....

thank you all again.
