too much oil?
I checked my oil, and it was about a 1/2 inch over the full mark...Is this way too much to have any harmful affects, like oil seal damage? I mean I know anything over the 2nd hole is too much, but is it worth draining it out?
I brought it back to the shop and told them, and they told me it's fine...But I've heard too much oil can blow your seals. I never really redline it, but I heard it happens if you floor it to redline with too much oil you can do damage.
Anyone have any insight?

When I first bought the car they put too much oil in on my first free oil change. I drained it out good or bad for the car the holes are there for a reason. I drained it out the next day. I just drained enough to drop between the holes then filled it back up to the proper level.

Why dont you just jack it up and loosen up the drain bolt and will you start to see small drops of oil move real slowly and let some oil drain out. Make sure the oil is cool because you will need to keep the bolt part of the way in so you can control the oil flow.

Re: too much oil? problem is......
when the oil level gets too high, the crank running can 'whip' the oil into a foam, then the oil pressure light will not come on, but there will be lack of lube to the engine/top end usually suffers first.
On a 97 Accord 1/2 inch over the full mark is probably around 1 quart too much. Drain some out.

half inch is about one quart overfull, i've seen a car got over full bout 3 quarts and blew a head gasket the same day. it's better to drive with a little less oil then a little more, we'll that's my decision, you should just drop one quart of oil in your car.

yeah, i've put too much oil in my F22a1 before, about as much as you describe. ended up replacing the distributor seal and valve cover gasket as well as all spark plug seals. i would advise using the proper oil level.

Re: too much oil? (97akwerd)
dont listen to him.. just drain sum out...
in sum cases it wont do anything.. but there is always that risk in most cases... better have less oil than overfilled
