97 accord D4 blinks and check engine light on after adding fluid.
My D4 light started blinking and the check engine light is on. It runs fine. Not skipping or anything. I checked the transmission fluid and there was none in there. I added fluid and drove it a few times up the street. First time I drove it it kinda skipped a lil but I guess that was because I had just added the fluid.
Well the check light is still on and D4 is still blinking. Could it be something other than adding fluid or is there some sort of thing that has to be resetted if that was the problem?

Well after researching this forum a little bit more I found out how to reset my car. I did it and WALA the lights went off. If adding the fluid wasnt the problem, the lights would still be on and blinking even after resetting it right?

Tonight is my night for not being too sure of things so far, maybe and probably when you felt your tranny slipping this is what set the light, OBDII should monitor for tranny slip. It should watch one shaft in the tranny compared to another and when the rotations dont jive, the D4 diagnostic light comes on, what do you think, I might have read about this somewhere.

I added the fluid because the lights were on. After adding the fluid it slipped only one time right after i added it.
What ever the case the lights are off now because I took the battery cable off for 5 secs. I am wanting to know is there any way those 2 lights would have gone off if there was something else wrong with the transmission even if I didnt get the problem fix? Or is it possible it could jump back on.
So will resetting the car cause the lights to go off no matter, whats causing the lights to come on, is fixed or not?

Ok well the check light and the D4 light came back on. If someone can answer this question that'll be great ... heres the problem. If I go to crank the car up and drive it and when it shifts into forth gear, the transmission slips ONLY that first time when I hit into forth gear. If I slow all the way down and stop (not cutting the car off) and then speed back up .. it will not slip no matter how much I stop and go.
The only way it'll slip again like that is if I completly turn the car off and then start it up again and drive. And its basically the same thing as I just described above. Does any one know what this could be.
Also note, if this makes any difference or not, when I crank it up the check light is on and only when it slips into forth gear is when the D4 lights start to blink.

Any help?
And what does VSS stand for? Should I be ok driving it the way it is right now if its not causing any problems other than what I explained?

Sounds like you should have your tranny rebuilt, but ive never had an automatic so dont ask me.

I already told you what was wrong, get your tranny fixed, its slipping and the D4 light comes on because OBDII is monitoring the tranny shaft speeds, forget about the VSS, speedometer sensor. Go get your codes pulled.
