Default 96 honda accord swap questions?

Hey, ive seen a few posts on this here and other forums but i keep seeing different answers. Im currently swapping a jdm f22b sohc vtec motor ordered from hmo into a 96 honda accord lx. Just wondering whats all needed to make this run the right way? From what ive read the motor is obd1 (correct me if im wrong) and i know my car is obd2 so i think i would need an ecu from a 94-95 accord ex? Obd2 to obd1 Conversion harness and vtec sub harness? Is that all that would be needed? Or is it more complex any help would be apreciated! Thanks.

Probably be much easier to convert the engine over to OBD2. Use your distributor and swap the oil pump and TDC & CKP sensors over from your current engine. Should check out the oil pump specs before you swap it over though.

You can also opt to keep your original intake & exhaust manifolds. This will ensure that you keep all of the OBD2 emissions and EVAP systems intact.

Can you shed any light on what would need to be done to convert to obd1 and leave the motor as is?

What are the "testing" laws where you live? Meaning most states have laws that you must maintain ODB-II - you can do some extra work and maybe get by but in the end if you are not going for major performance upgrades - just follow the advise from "Ghost"

IMO it would be better to order an OBD2 JDM F22B or F23A than an OBD1. Not to mention most ofhte JDM engines being shipped over are "warranted" to be low mileage.

All this being said I have to apologize. I just noticed that you said it was a 96 JDM engine. This could very well be an OBD2 engine. You would have to confirm with the importer.

I bought the motor from hmo when i called they said its a 96-97 because that was the year car i said. Also there is no emission testing here. Why i picked this motor was because i was on a budget still get a little hp and torque gain and i like my singlecams. I was just a bit curious for some help never worked much with accords just wana make sure it gets done the right way. Just was curious on if i went obd1 what was all necesary to do? But converting to obd2 isnt a huge deal either. Not going for huge power gaines its getting boltons a stage 1 clutch lightened flywheel and a f20b lsd tranny.

If it is a 96-97 OBD2 SOHC F22B than is should drop right into your OBD2 Accord without having to convert anything. Might have to swap the distributor if one has an internal coil and the other is external.

Whats the easiest way to tell if its obd1 or obd2 because the guy at hmo sounded somewhat unsure lol.

Yeah that looks comparable to an OBD1 USDM F22B1.

Only reason I say this is because that looks to be an internal coil distributor with 8-9 wires. Indicating that all three of the engine position sensors are located in the distributor. TDC, CKP and CYP.

You will need an OBD1 (94-95) engine harness out of an EX if you don't like swapping/soldering and adding wires.

Ok so to stay obd1 id need the 94-95 ex engine harness plus obd2 to obd1 conversion harness vtec subharness and a 94-95 accord ex ecu? And to convert to obd2 id need to swap out oil pump and distributer and get a 96-97 ex ecu? Just trying to make sure i got this some what correct again thanks for all the help.

That about sums it up!

Oh and you would also need to add the VTEC wires to the OBD2 as well. I don't remember seeing them in the LX harness when I took mine apart.

I'm pretty sure that you would want a 96-97 EX distributor. Unless you want to do an internal to external coil swap.

Your LX had an external coil correct?
