Default 96 2.7 V6 questions

coming up on 200,000 miles on my 1996 V6. got a leaking valve cover gasket and pushrod cover gasket, and maybe the oil pan gasket too. not leaking bad just enought to smell and get on my nerves, maybe 1/4 of a quart between oil changes.

anyways wondering if anyone has had the same problems, should i just fix whats leaking, or go head and replace all gaskets/ seals, and rings since it has quite a few miles? any price quotes on parts and labor if anyone has had it done? should i buy the parts myself and get someone to do the work? what kinda parts will i need to do a basic rebuild? (no performance stuff)

just curious to anyones feedback

Your course of action will be determined by your near-term plans for the car. If you plan to drive it to 300,000miles - it could well be worth your time and effort to seal the external leaks and keep up with scheduled maintaince.
Anything else and I'd question for furthur elaboration (you've all manner of choices available)

i'd like to keep it running as long as possible, its an awesome car, has plenty of power and drives real smooth... just wondering if anyone out there did any maintenance like this and if so what it could cost me and what i'll need, to see if it will be worth the money.. car is still it great condition and i just want to stay on top of the problems to make sure it stays that way

valve cover gaskets you can do yourself I believe that honda uses neoprine (SP) and they usually last a long time. Oil pan you are better off using a mechanic with a lift to fix that since you have to remove the center crossmember under the car....

Hard to give an estimate for oil pan and valve covers but somewhere around $500 for all is about right......

I absolutely reccomend replacing the gaskets. It's definately worth it. That car will always return the care you give it. If you take care of it now it's gonna take care of you a lot longer. Spend a few bucks and take care of it!

As mentioned elsewhere, I too would recommend resealing the Valve Covers and the Oil Sump Pan. In addition, I'd have the timing belt covers pulled to inspect the seal integrity of the Front Cam seal(s), the condition of the timing belt (if it hasn't been replaced in the last 80k miles and the Front Crankshaft seals.

Away from the engine, I'd recommend having the brake system flushed (I suspect it's never been done), the coolant protection level verified and the Auto Transmission fluid checked for color and the smell of overheating. (Change if these conditions exist)
