92 accord transmission problems

92 accord transmission problems
I have a 92 accord that I just bought for $250. The guy was hard up for money and couldn't put anymore into fixing it. What it does: sometimes, it's fine, no problems. Then all of the sudden it acts like it kicks in and out of lock-up as youre driving, if you take off from a stop, it feels like it's in a high gear. I see the D4 light blinking when the problems occur. Another thing I noticed is sitting in park at idle, what I assume to be the shift interlock solenoid clicks over and over sometimes. Could that cause these issues. I can manually shift the trans from a stop and it shifts fine. And if I pull the battery cable and reset everything, it's fine for a little while. I have tested the solenoids, they seem to click fine, the TCU has been replaced, although I don't know if it was with a new one or a used one. The neutral safety swith was replaced (I was told by previous owner). So I'm wondering do I try the TCU again, or the interlock solenoid, but that solenoid is good obviously, I can hear it clicking. Any input would be great

Re: 92 accord transmission problems
Tranny is shifted via fluid pressure. Make sure you have enough fluid in the tranny.
After that you are looking at the items you already covered. And after that you simply have a bad tranny.

Transmissions are electronically controlled via shift solenoids.
If the D4 lamp is blinking, locate the blue two wire connector over by the passenger kickpanel. Jumper it, turn the car to II(ON) and record the blinking codes.
Report back here.

Are there any CEL codes? Does the CEL work? Some codes CEL/D4 codes are shared, so the D4 lamp may blink but not store a code in the TCU if there is a same/similar code already stored in the ECU.
Next step would be to pull the TCU and check that there are no burned resistors or blown capacitors on the board.

Re: 92 accord transmission problems
CEL does work. When I jump the wires it is on solid. I get no D4codes either. The problem seems to be completely random, yesterday I put about 20 problem free miles on it. Then I started it today and it was acting up. I do notice that if the shifter interlock solenoid (that keeps the shifter from moving without the brake) is clicking off and on on its own while in park, then the problem is there. If it's driving fine I don't seem to hear it clicking. The shifter will move without pushing the break. I'm not sure what to try next. The fluid is fine, the solenoids click when tested, the TCU has been replaced, and the neutral safety switch has been changed.
