'90 Accord alternator removal problem
I am trying to get the belt off this alternator. The Haynes says to loosen the pivot bolt, then back off the 10mm adjuster. It seems obvious to me, however, that you also need to loosen the 12mm bolt on the bottom of the alternator to allow it to slide in the groove as you loosen the adjuster. In any case, I have loosened everything and the alternator won't slide in the groove. I don't think it's stuck from the top because I can wiggle it at the pivot bolt. The belt loosened slightly but still too much tension to remove.

should slide. Pivot bolt up top should be loose, and you say it is. 12mm groove nut near bottom should also be loose. other than that there is also a tension bolt that works the actual tension of the belt, loosen this and it should slide. You might have to hit it with something if it's stuck.

Thanks, finally got it off with a lot of banging. I think the problem was that the pivot bolt bracket had been damaged during a previous installation.
