6th Gen 4cyl EGR valve cleaning process with PICS
Got curious this weekend and decided to clean my EGR valve. Through the hundreds of EGR posts, I haven't seen many, if any dealing with the 6th gen Accord.
I started by depressurizing the fuel system so I could remove the fuel rail and injectors. This cleaning could probably be done without removing them, but for picture purposes, I did. I disconnected the electrical connector from the fuel pump in the trunk and tried to start the car, letting it run through the gas in the line. Next I losened the fuel pulsation dampener and covered it with a rag to soak up the fuel. Remove the dampener, then disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors. Removing the PCV valve and another vacuum line that are in the way makes this much more easy to access. Remove all hardware holding the fuel rail in place, and remove the rail with injectors still in the rail. After that, it's just two bolts holding the EGR valve in place. All work can be done with just a 10mm and 12 mm socket, though I strongly recommend having wrenches handy.
With that said, here's some pics of my cleaning job to give you an idea of what you're looking for.
Here's the location of the EGR valve. There is only one path for the gases to flow and be recirculated as opposed to the multiple runners in older accords. No plugs to pull.
Here's the bottom side of the valve. Clean it with whatever you please.
This is what you have after removing the valve.
Gas flow through the valve and port.
That's about it! Lemme know if you have a question or if I left anything out.

Re: 6th Gen 4cyl EGR valve cleaning process with PICS (Crono139)
No prob. Just had the camera near-by and figured i could post something on the 6th gens since i didn't see any info when i originally searched.
My valve wasn't all that clogged, probably due to my spirited driving. Haven't had enought time to notice much, but I'm expecting maybe a 1mpg increase. I replaced my PCV valve at the same time, which somehow managed to lose it's spring and steel shot (ball), while staying intact. Dunno how tha hell that happened. Anywho, that made a very noticeable increase in the idling. Soo much smoother now.
Another word of advice. If you DO remove the injectors and/or fuel rail, you should definately install a new O-ring kit onto the injectors and oil them up before putting it all back together. Otherwise, you'll have Old Faithful sprayin up some 93 octane... don't ask.

Nice.
You are right, there isn't much written up on the 98-02 Accord for egr cleaning.
Did you remove the plenum (upper intake manifold) and clean the port up there as well or did you just clean the egr valve and the ports were the egr valve mounts?
also, the last picture isn't working for me either.

The last pic was basically the second-to-last picture, only with some arrows draw, courtesy of MS paint. I'll see if i can dig that one up.
