215/45/17 VS. 215/50/17
hey ya'll!!
i need to purchase tires in about a month or so, i've been looking around for the tires and got down to 2 choices, which are 215/45/17 & 215/50/17.
i'm thinking about getting 'em from tirerack.com , since they have pretty good price on those tires, and price isn't that much difference.
i'm running 215/40/17 tires right now and it's kindda rough for my taste. so i'm thinking about getting some thicker tires to get comfy ride. since i have koni yellows & skunk2 coilovers, i can always adjust the heights in order to make no finger gap on the front side.
i know that having 50 series tires will throw off my speedometer but i don't speed anymore, so it doesn't really matter.
please give some opinions & advices!
thanks

Re: 215/45/17 VS. 215/50/17 (vtec94)
I just recently looked at a tirerack ad in a car magazine and if I remember correctly the largest sidewall height you can get on a 17" performance tire is 45. Only the 16" (and smaller diameter) tires can be bought with a 50 and above sidewall height. I might be wrong about this, so obviously look into it. I have 225/45ZR17's on my '94 Accord EX and it handles great, but like you said the ride is often rough. Good Luck.

DO NOT get 50's they will rub. This cat at my college got a 95 accord with 215 50 17's and he said his **** rubs and he only got a 1.5" drop. On top of that it looks really STUPID. Don't make that mistake. When putting 17's the max you can go is 45 series. Trust me I see this car almost everyday during the semester and it looks like it goes off-roading. Good luck.

Go with the 45's. I have put 50's on civics and they all rub!! 215/45r17's are the only way to go. Trust me. I've been selling tires for 12 years.
