If no other lights are affected and it's an EX 4 cylinder or LX/EX 6 cylinder model, the audio unit probably crapped out.

There is a TSB for defective radios on the 2003's; don't know if it applies to just the lights going out though. TSB #03-017 - see what your dealer says...
Aren't you still under warranty anyway? So why mess with it yourself?

That bulletin is for problems with in dash cd changers. SB 04-027 deals with the dim or dark display.

Re: 2003 accord radio lights went out (Chiovnidca)
Well...what should be done in my situation?
I just purchased a high mileage 03 Accord for a good deal. However, the lighs in the radio and HVAC console are out, the used car deal gave me the option for an extended warranty which will cover the radio, but it won't take effect for 30 days on parts that don't affect the driveability of the car. Then they also added that it will take some time to take the radio out and order the new one if needed...so who knows how much time that's going to take. Do you think Honda will replace my radio for free? 73k on the clock.
Suggestions, no one has found a solution to why the lights go out? No fuses or anything?
Any help, much appreciated.
Vic

Honda is not repairing any of the defective head units - just replacing them with refurbished units. The TSB allows for goodwill consideration - if you have a friendly dealer, or if you can demonstrate either a history of spending money at a dealer or a future intention of doing so, they will usually handle the replacement at no charge. if you come in cold asking for a free replcement head unit, your chances are slim.
How much is the extended warranty? That should help you decide.
Is there any other work you expect to have done? I would suggest taking the car to a reputable dealer, having them check it out for you, maybe change some fluids, and "oh, by the way" can you check out my radio for me too? Maybe the fact that you are spending money for the other work will incentify them to do the TSB swap out for you too...

Re: 2003 accord radio lights went out (Pairallel)
Thanks for the tip...I'll give that a try...my extended warranty was an extra $2000, but it'll cover the radio (got that in writing form the dealer before I left)
Thanks again, I need to take the car in and see if all the recalls were done anyways...so it's worth a shot.
