2002 Honda Accord won't start
Hello all...
Everytime I fill up my car it won't start after I turn it off. It will usually crank for a few minutes and than finally start. But I just filled it up today, drove back to work and now it won't start at all.
Any idea on what it could be? 2002 V6 Honda Accord Automatic....

Re: 2002 Honda Accord won't start
Hello there,
I have a 98 accord v6 coupe. i also have an occasional problem after filling up with gas and random other times as well. i crank the car over it attempts to start and then shuts off. when it does happen it wait about a minute and then the car starts fine. i've also had a problem of late on hot days. when there is alot of heat inside the car it wont start at all. i've heard a few people talk about a main relay switch. i'm currently looking into replacing it and if thats what it is i will keep you posted.

Hey I have had the same problem you guys are discribing as well. except that I have a four cyl. Now it can be the fuel pump the only way you can check that without doing it or a mechanic is knock on the gas tank. Starts up great. What happened with mine is that it was the main relay. Due to heat it cracked and when it got hot seperated just enough that unless i shook it a little bit wouldnt start. hope this helps I hate it myself when I have a problem and people keep saying search instead of just saying the answer.

so it was the main relay.
thanks for the reassurance. thats what i've been hearing about this problem but never got a chance to replace mine.
what was the cost like to replace it.

I have pretty close to the same problem with my 2001 accord, it's a 4 cylinder. wouldn't start a few days ago, I un hooked the battery for five minutes(on advice from a gravel back, god bless him, but not what i needed) and nothing, buddy stopped buy, banged on the 'fuel filter' and away it started. weird thing is today it did the same thing and bagning on the 'fuel filter did nothing. becuse the filter in question was actually some kind of emmissons or extra charcoal canister near the tank.
anyway, never made it to work(22) miles away. and live in rural BFE, nearest honda garage is 70 miles away"drive it over?"
Another buddy came by and loosen up that fuel line(don't know name) connecting to the rail, and a little gas was seeping out, so it was deemed that fuel was in the lines, hence, "pump working" . check the plugs "all sparking" yet starter turns engine, engine just won't start.
"I never heard the fuel pump running initially though".....
any ideas?
ECU?
FUEL PUMP?
RELAY?

Re: 2002 Honda Accord won't start
ok, so I disconnected the fuel line going to the fuel rail, put the line in a can to see if any fuel was comingout when pressurized or started, nothing, so my guess is a relay or a fuel pump? any way to check this relay, and where is it located?

Re: 2002 Honda Accord won't start
After this was happening to me in my much older honda's I check the relay first now. The f'in relay has been done now on my 1990 integra, 1990 accord and my gf's 1991 accord.

If you are good with a soldering iron, these relays can be repaired. I don't know about the 2002 if the problem is the soldered connections or not, but the older ones, yes. I have done this twice. They get little cracks you can see.
On my 2002, the circuit board of the relay comes out of it's housing up in there if you disconnect the wiring connector first and use a small flat screwdriver to work out the white connector receptacle (with 7 contacts) at two places from the black housing. Hard to see up in there, but I found this to be the easiest way to get the little board out to inspect. There's a way to check the wires for voltage but I'm not so good at that. Also, one can hear the fuel pump run for 1-2 secs. when you turn the key to the second click. You know the relay works if you hear the whirring sound.
