Default Just bought a 99 Accord.. have a few ?'s

Hey guys and gals, I just bought a 99 Honda Accord EX color black with a light interior. The outside has the Gold letters. I have never owned a Honda before and I have to say that I love it... Im a big Audi person and a Jeep owner...

So the question I have is... I bought the 99 Accord with 35,000 original miles on it.. and paid 7,500... Was this a reasonable price?

I also noticed that a headlight is out... I can't seem to remove the bulb.. is there some sort of trick.. or do I have to unscrew it out... on my other cars, I usually just twist it out..

Thanks
-J

that was a steal. 1998 Accords are still in the 8-10K range. Is it V6? if so, don't count your blessings yet. trans most likely will not make it past 100K

I got my 98 for 6K with 87K on it and I put 3.5K into it for a new trans.

If I am not mistaken, all you must do to remove the headlight bulb is give it about an 1/8 turn counterclockwise and that should release it, then just pull the bulb out and pop your new one in there, and installation is just the reverse. The same goes for the taillights.

Its a V4 Sedan. ULEV or something like that.. I bought it with the intention to drive to and from work to get good MPG's.. My wrangler gets 10MPG so anything better than that and Im happy...

Is there anything I should take it into Honda and get it checked out for... anything that usually goes around the 35k range?

Thanks for all the info...

If you don't know this already, don't touch the glass part of the new bulb with your fingers. The bulb will burn out much quicker. Use a paper towel or gloves to handle the bulb.

Any chance that you have the maintenance records? If not, read your owner's manual regarding maintenance, and do *everything* on the list that's listed as needing to be done by 84,000 months (which will most likely be everything). It may (will) be cheaper to go to a mechanic other than the dealer.

And call it an inline 4 (or I4), or say it has 4 cylinders. But don't call it a V4 because it's not.

And ck123, the automatic transmissions on both the I4's and V6's had problems in '98 and '99 (not sure about after).

Here’s the maintenance schedule. Even though it’s low miles it also has about 84 months on it – just do everything on the list and then consider that mile / month zero. Count up from there for future maintenance work.

Maintenance schedule for a ’99 Honda Accord, “Normal” conditions

a. Replace engine oil: every 7,500 miles or 12 months
b. Replace engine oil filter: every 15,000 miles or 12 months
c. Check engine oil and coolant: at each fuel stop
d. Replace air cleaner element: every 30,000 miles or 24 months
e. Inspect valve clearance: Adjust only if noisy
f. Replace spark plugs:
4-cyl: every 30,000 miles / 24 months
6-cyl: 105,000 miles / 84 months
g. Replace timing belt, balancer belt (4-cyl only), and inspect water pump: 105,000 miles or 84 months
h. Inspect and adjust drive belts: every 30,000 miles or 24 months
i. Inspect idle speed: every 105,000 miles or 84 months
j. Replace engine coolant: every 45,000 miles or 36 months
k. Replace transmission fluid: every 90,000 miles or 72 months
l. Inspect front and rear brakes: every 15,000 miles / 12 months
m. Replace brake fluid: every 45,000 miles / 36 months
n. Check parking brake adjustment: every 15,000 miles / 12 months
o. Replace air conditioning filter (a.k.a. “cabin filter”): every 30,000 miles / 30,000 miles
p. Rotate tires (check tire inflation and condition at least once per month): every 7,500 miles

Visually inspect the following items every 15,000 miles / 12 months:
Tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots
Suspension components, driveshaft boots
Brake hoses and lines (including ABS)
All fluid levels and condition of fluids
Cooling system hoses and connections
Exhaust system, fuel lines and connections
