Default 2001 Accord 2.3- engine noise

I've noticed our Accord's engine seems to have some bottom end noise and various speeds and both warm and cold. I suspected possibly worn bearings. Out mechanic checked main and rod bearing clearances and found them to be within spec. He's thinking the noise if from worn wrist pins and said no need to do anything now but if it develops a knock, it will be rebuild time.

Are these engines known to wear wrist pins a lot?, and I wonder how long it has before we'll need new pistons, wrist pins, etc...

The engine has 137K on it now (oil changed every 3K miles by my sister who was the P.O. and myself) and runs well except for the noise.
