Was I ripped off?

it's a shop so it's always going to seem expensive.
Didn't you ask for the price of install before handing over the car?
If you felt this was too much, why didn't you do it yourself? It's not hard, basic hand tools besides the spring compressor which can be rented. Shouldn't have taken more than 2-2.5 hours total to do both rears yourself.

I'm kinda curious too
Why didn't you ask for an approximate price quote before having the work done?
You're also assuming they ran into no snags.
My friend had 3 lugs break off his rear wheels trying to do his suspension - they had to remove the whole assembly, drill the studs/lugs out from the back and then replace them.
That was incredibly time consuming

^^ look at what I wrote
Assuming no snags it's not horrible pricing, did they have to replace anything else?
Did they use new bolts?
Were the bolts seized up?
etc
It took my rears much longer than the fronts to take off just because of some seized up bolts.
1-2 hours of labor probably is what that equals

ok, lets think about this.
I don't know how much time they are supposed to charge for this job but I'll guess an hour for each.
Now every shop has different labor rates but they all generally charge for the same amount of hours for a given job. Now for example, last time I was in Honda I asked a tech what their labor rates were and he replied "$80/per and minimum 2 hour charge". So lets just say the shop you took your car to charges $80/per hour as well and charge 1 hour for each, thats $160 in labor. My rough guessing comes out pretty close, but I don't take my car in for much work at shops so...
My question to you is, what does your receipt say? It should list it all out for you what they charged you for and how much it was. Maybe listing that stuff will help in giving you a better opinion on if you got ripped of or not. But to me it doesn't sound like you did.

on avg, they run about 60bucks per corner to replace a strut, so your prices are not unreasonably high, depending on locality. they are on the high side, but like eveyrone else said, we have no clue waht exactly they did.

dude it all about how many hours the mechanic spent working on your car.
some people will tell a certain job will only take *insert hours here* for a particular job, but that is just an estimate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you have to figure that not every car is the same!!!!!!!!! anything could go wrong and take a little bit longer than expected! the important thing is THEY GOT THE JOB DONE!
now, if you don't trust them, you have all the rights to go to someone else next time you need something done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

most hell almost all go by a flat rate system, which will say how many book hours for a job. and never go to a shop then just tell them to do a job without getting some sort of quot, also legally you have to get customer approving before doing anything other then the job that was approved. if they say, which should be stated in your work order, that other work was done even if needed, unless they got the ok.
