1999 Accord squealing on start up
I have had a problem with my car over the last 4 months and I am after some advice. On start up I get a loud squealing noise which I initialy thought was a slack belt. The noise is worse if I park with the tyres not straight and also in the cold. I tightened the belt to the power steering pump which helped at first however did not cure the problem. I then decided to renew the belt to see if this would help but it didn't. I have had a couple of people look at it and one thinks the pump needs replacing (Excessive noise, possibly bearings) and the other thinks the wheel on the pump is the fault which is causing the noise. I have been told that the pumps very rarely fail. The car has 97000 miles on the clock and has been serviced by honda and also by me. Any ideas?

Belt tensions are good? For both belts? Alignment of the belts are ok? Condition of the belts?
I can't say more than that...

Re: 1999 Accord squealing on start up
I will have a look at the tightness of the belts in the morning before making a decision on whether or not to take it to my local Honda garage. I am not willing to have a substantial bill for hours of labour charges which I suspect this fault might incur. The squealing is only on start up so guaranteed the noise will not be there when I reach the Honda garage. The garage will see plenty of €€€€€€€€ or $$$$$$$$ for those of you on the other side of the pond.
