I have a 1996 Honda Accord EX, the other day for some reason the system stopped charging. Battery light did not come on, but the car ran on battery until it was drained. Had the alternator checked at four different shops and it passed. Battery checked bad. Purchased new battery, put the alternator back in car ran fine for a day. Last night lights started dimming and eventually car stopped. Jumped started drove home. Today took alternator and starter off, and had them checked. Both checked out fine. Decided to replace the alternator just in case. Car started, but about 10 minutes later RPM went dropped and it died again. It seems that the charge is not recycling between the battery and the alternator. Help. Thanks

I have a 1996 accord ex. After getting 2 bad re-man alternators from the parts house, I finally got a good one. One problem though, for some reason, after hooking up the new one, something in the system has partially shorted the alternator out leaving it with a 9-10 volt output instead of the usual 13.5- 14.5. Could the problem be the ECM, which I think is where the regulator is, or the load dist. box? I'm stumped. Thanks-----------Dave

The output from the alternator across the battery terminals while car is on should be around 14V.

Testing that will tell you if it is working. If you bought a Advanced Auto reman alternator, I'd put money on it being a POS.
