Default 1996 Honda Accord 2.2, 4cy, camshaft position sensor

My car went dead while I was driving, it would not crank back up. I could tell it was get no fire. I plugged in code reader, it came up, p1382-camshaft position(CMP). I have search the internet, no clear answer. Where is the camshaft position sensor located at on a 96 Honda accord, 2.2? Please help me with a clear answer.

The cylinder position sensor (CYP) is located inside the distributor and is not easily replaced. 9.99 times out of 10 you will have to replace the entire distributor housing.

That being said you should look into having your the ignitor or ICM inside the distributor tested/replaced. It is a common issue that will cause a not spark issue.

However, I would also suggest that you check to make sure that your timing belt isn't stripped or broken. Remove the distributor cap and turn the engine over. If the rotor turns while your trying to start the car. Your belt is still intact. If it doesn't turn. Your looking at a new belt and depending on when it broke, possibly a bent valve or two.

So is there a way of testing the ICM, I know I can't get CYP. I don't want to just buy ICM and thats not the problem, they will not take it back at auto parts store.

I have also a problem with the camshaft sensor. My distributor has two terminals, one is a 2 pin the other a 4 pin terminal. Does anyone have an schematic for these terminals ? Which are the pins for the camshaft sensor ?
Thank you

I had the ICM go out on my 97. The auto parts store will test some Ignition modules...and I think the Honda is one they can test. I just cant remember though...Old age But I can tell you, if they can test it...have them test it several times. If they cant test it..go to the junk yard...and get the guts out of a dizzy...both the sensor and the ICM.

My 96 ran okay except for a problematic IAC valve, changed the IAC, it didn't start. Put in the old one, still no start, used my code reader and got the cylinder position sensor code. Hope my boss will give me a ride into work and then go to a yard then back home. Silly me, I was going to buy health insurance with that money

Its the distributor, you have to change the whole distributor because the sensor is located inside the distributor, I had this same exact problem code P1382, buy a used Denso at a junkyard for a 95,96,97 Honda Accord, those 3 years were the same make and model distributor, just make sure you buy the one you need as per your car, example a V6 vtech, or non-vtech, or a V4 vtech, or non-vtech distributor, I changed my distributor and the code went away as soon as I installed the new one, if by chance you install the new one and the code doesn't go away, just go to any mechanic and tell them to erase the code for you with their code reader, best of luck!!!

No need to go to a mechanic to erase the code, you should have disconnected the (-) cable of the battery before you started to remove the distributor. this will clear any codes on the ECU. So if the code comes back after you replaced your distributor with a junk yard distributor you may want to trouble shoot On Board Diagnostic Trouble Code properly. Test the sensors before you replace them. Could just be a loose or corroded connection, may be a short in the wire harness. Ya just never know.

FYI, it's VTEC and Accords came with an I4 not a V4.....
