Default 1995 Accord AC recharge problems

I tried to recharge the AC on my '95 today and wasn't able to actually get it to work. It seems as though pressure will only build up in the low end service port line. I can bleed it and let the pressure out, and reconnect the can of refrigerant. No refrigerant will actually enter the system, just into the line I'm charging into, it's like it's clogged or something. Hope I'm explaining this clearly. The compressor clutch also won't engage no matter what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check the A/C relay to make sure it's functioning? As far as recharging the system you could have extra air in the system. When doing a good recharge you always pull the old stuff out and pull a vacuum to really clear the system then add refrigerant. Are you using an actual machine or one of those recharge in the can?

I haven't checked the relay. Can you please tell me how? I haven't evacuated the system either, just assumed it leaked out slowly over time and there wasn't much to be cleared out since it wasn't actually opened up and exposed to the elements. As for what I'm using, just good old DuPont R134-a, nothing else (although I should probably use PAG oil).

PS, when I hit the AC button on the dash and listen carefully, I can hear something turn on, but it's definitely not the clutch on the compressor. Probably the condenser fan?

prolly the clutch which is good news

u ONLY fill A/C thru the low pressure port

when filling turn on A/C and set to MAX COOL and MAX FAN fill slowly shaking can as u fill. it always helps to have a pressure gauge hooked to the hose but u can always just "fill until air is cold from vents" so check often

no need to empty system before u fill ?huh?

A/C is a highly pressurized system and u can overfill but its not very common

1) I already said the clutch does not activate period.

2) I know, and that's what I did.

3) Did that too.

4) Why would you need to empty a system that already completely leaked out slowly over 18 years?

There is no refrigerant in my system, and it will not accept any new refrigerant. And the clutch will not activate no matter what.

Sounds like your service port valve is bad. Get another one from Walmart and screw it on. It will seem like it doesn't fit, but it does. Just tighten it down. Keep in mind if you're wrong and there is refrigerant in there it will be under pressure so be careful unscrewing the old one.

Just for the hell of it, take off the ac pressure switch connector and test the pressure switch for continuity. Assuming there isn't any refrigerant, there should be no continuity. If you get continuity that means there is enough refrigerant and you can start doing actual testing.

Make sure to charge it with the ac on and the car on and when you get the minimum amount of refrigerant in the system the clutch will cycle on, assuming your ac system is otherwise operational.
