Default What do you say to someone before Cancer surgery?

Where do you even begin? A very good friend of the family is going in for Pancreatic cancer sugery tomorrow and I can't figure out if I should even call him.
Do you wish him Good Luck? Do you tell him to stay strong? I am usually the 1st guy with the right thing to say but I am at a loss for words right now.
Cancer/Malignant......is there a worse word in the english langauge?!.....

You tell them you love them, and they will get through it. A little hope and confidence can go a long way, beleive me. I personally work with doctors here at Columbia university, and they say that even the slightest amount of will to live can give the person a better chance to survive a surgery or disease.

Just encouragement, and tell them that everything is going to be okay. Just being there will help.

How old is your friend? Pancreatic cancer, thats awful.

Call him and ask him if there is anything you can do for him.

Sometimes they may want you to give them a hand taking care of something but may be too afraid to ask.

Honestly, he/she knows what's about to happen. Just do something to reassure them that you're thinking of them(don't say it). Simple stuff like just talking to them about something completely unrelated is nice. Pick something cars, sports, women, etc... IMO ending it with making plans to go out and do something together is good too.

Excellent advice, gives them something to look forward to.

"See you on the flip side..."

Umm.. tell them you'll see them after surgery. You certainly dont want to make them think that they are going to die on the table..

I just found out that my dad's best friend in the whole world died at 61. They were friends since high school, they played ball together, they grew up together.

My dad doesn't know yet.

"Am I in your will by chance?"

Honestly, I would wish him luck and let him know that he'll be in your prayers.
