Pioneer 2 Channel Preamp Mixer Model DJM 300 | eBay

Another option is the Vestax 05 pro II or III. The sound quality isn't much better than what you have, but it is a notch or two better for sure. They are built like tanks, and will last you 10+ years of you take care of them. The big ding against it is not having any mid eq. Tons of replacement parts out there though, so you will never have any problems finding stuff in case something ever goes wrong.

Vestax PMC 05 Pro 2 | eBay

If you decide to up your budget to $300-$400, there is a whole 'nother level of quality mixers to choose from.

Something you have to remember when worrying about money spent with quality *** DJ gear that isn't manufactured anymore, e.g. vestax 05 pro, techincs turntables, they are pretty much always going to sell at what you bought them for or more if you take care of them. If you think about getting your pair of techs for the steal of $300, you basically got paid $300-$400 to buy them. In the condition they are in they would easily go for $600+ for the pair. So, you've got a good bit of equity to play with already when it comes to this hobby, if you decide you hate it and want to cash out.

On Serato, the SL1 box can be found for ~$150, but the downfall on that is it's usb 1.0, so you would need a computer that can still accept 1.0. The SL2 boxes are ~$250 used all over on guitar center's used site. The gc site is a great place for deals on used mixers too.

Hit me up with anything you are considering mixer-wise, and I'll give you my 2 cents.
Digin that Vestax mixer. I'll deff shop around and I'll up the budget if need be for a quality mixer. I've been looking into this one great ratings and for around my budget look's good.

As for Opie needing a new mixer, IMO this is far and away the best 2 ch DJ mixer under $300

Legendary Allen and Heath build and sound quality, and you can get a built in sound card if you want to drop a little extra cheddar $$

also, if you feel like getting into scratching records (which techs are great for) you can drop in a sweet Innofader crossfader and go all Qbert on the bish

That Denon is pretty decent too... I'd put A&H a step above though and if you want to scratch that Denon might need an upgraded Xfader

On the x120, I know nothing about Denon mixers, sorry.

On the xone 23, yup, great sound quality and build. The stock faders aren't terrible either. Personally, if I were considering spending $300 + a possible Innofader($120?), I would be searching for a used Rane ttm 56 instead.

Another great budget alternative.

Great thread idea.

As I previously stated, my gf and I are doing a bit of an apprenticeship with a local house DJ

we're looking for equipment to start off obviously

is there a guide as to what makes a good DJ turntable and what doesnt? Pointers for a noob looking to get started and looking to buy equipment?

DJ Tech DIF1S V2 Professional DJ Scratch Mixer
Fully support both of these suggestions

It's really too bad to be honest...I suppose the market dictates, so it makes sense, but great budget (under $1000) mixers seem to be no more.

I could post at least 10 great mixers from BITD that could be had new for under a grand and can be bought used today for half that much.

Too bad they are either all beat to crap or are basically unicorns.

HYBRID DIGITAL

Broke *** White Boy lookin a little less broke *** in that photo

Good dj equipment some techs lol. I know a lot of people start out with Gemini tables those things are cheap. But in the long run your going to always be wanting techs so start there I'd say.

Early on I had experienced some hum, but I was able to cure it by unbundling all the wires, and getting the RCA's away from power sources. now I don't get any kind of background noise.

Are you set on a turntable setup or have you looked at the cheaper controller route?

Basically what makes a good DJ turntable is the motor being direct drive, having good torque, having a steady and dependable pitch slider, quality tone arm, and quality build.

There are a ton of options out there. The following are the only ones I would go with:

Reloop RP-7000/8000
Pioneer PLX 1000
Vestax PDX 3000
Technics 1200 mkII/m3d/mk5/m5g

I stick with techs. All three other models have higher torque and cooler bells and whistles. I still will always have technics, because they have been the industry standard since the late 70's, are reliable af, and replacement parts are plentiful.

That Alba photo is great. Looks straight out of the 70's...is she even holding that vinyl? Seems photoshopped.

I've had the third for 2'ish years. I bought the 4th at the middle/end of last summer for like $315 on eBay, in "excellent" condition.

Thing arrived with a bent tone arm, an adjustable tone arm base that didn't adjust, a pitch fader that seemed to be lubed with sand, and the insides were soaked in so much cigarette smoke/club resin that it took three, four days to be able to remove the platter. Needles to say, there was a lot of back and forth with the seller. He wouldn't budge on paying return shipping. Ebay ended up letting me keep the turntable and refunded all of my money. I went out and bought a new tone arm base, tone arm assembly, new pitch fader, a pair of self grounded RCA's(used the other on another table), cleaned everything up, and repaired/replaced everything for a grand total of $240. So, it worked out great in the end. I got a completely refurbished 1210, got acquainted with soldering, and got a lot of experience working on technics for $240, not bad.
