Default Lotus elise motors?

Just how many different motors are there for the lotus elise? Did it only come with one option or were there a few? Domestic or foreign.

:EDIT: I'm trying to settle a grudge with the neighbor that you could get one with a B18c5.

They come with a Toyota engine, but I've seen an article of one with a B series in it. Let me see if I can find it.

Edit: Not the original article I saw, but this Elise has an ITR engine. http://www.caranddriver.com/ar...ber=1

well what i heard was this. in the uk they used there motors in it but they cant use it here because well it couldnt pass emissions apparently. they have 3 differnt motors avalible for it. in the us spec elise they use the celica engine i believe. now the answer your looking for is the kit cars or that one importer sun something. what they did was they imported the elise in a very shady way and they had the option for a type r motor.
so i would say that the elise never came with a stock type r motor. it was a battle between the type r motor or the celica motor to be installed in the elise. they just happen to like the celica motor better.

uks elise specs.

Before the lotus elise was available in the US it was imported by a company called "Sun International" where it was outfitted with a b18c5. Now, the lotus which is available on our shores shares the same motor as the toyota celica GTS.

I think you are thinking of the Ariel Atom 2.....it comes with a roots blown K20R.

Quick Atom facts.

300 BHP
Curb weight of 500 KG
0-60 time of 2.9 seconds
0-100-0 acceleration and braking of 10.88 seconds.

Yeah, thats right it can make it from a dead stop to 100 mph and back toa dead stop in less time than it takes most cars to propel themselves down the 1320. Stick that in your Ferrari Enzo and smoke it.

that's friggin nuts.

the elise=great car to build on if you have money. but a k24 with a blower in that small *** car..that's crazy! to the person/group that built that thing.

The Elise WISHES it was an Atom....seriously. If you are goign to buy somethign as impractical as an Elise just go ***** out and get the Ariel Atom. That my friend is the REAL DEAL. I beleive the quote was "Nothing on four wheels is faster......NOTHING."

Elise does have a windsheild and a roof though.

an elise is 10000x more practical than an atom. they're not really comparable

the factory elises originally came with variants of the rover k-series, the new ones with toyota vvti motor

though i've seen everything from b18c5's to twin turbo audi engines swapped in there

this is another k-series swap though

elise's look like badass car's, but i would only get one if i had another car. i would then drive the elise every other day or something

The REAL problem with Toyota motors such as this one is the almost complete lack of an aftermarket. Now 200HP is not too bad. But let's face it, it's going nowhere from there. Honda motors have the advantage of a MUCH better performance aftermarket.

lotus approached both toyota and honda about providing engines for the us version. from what i have read toyota jumped at the oportunity while honda had little to no intrest in providing motors. thus the 2gzz or whatever the code is ended up in the car in us trim.

No, the Celica GTS motor.

In UK/euro spec, the Lotus has a Renault 4 cylinder (130-150hp?), less interior trim, less safety gear, and weighs less.

In the US, the Lotus has all the federalized stuff, AC, radio, and the Celica GTS motor and 6-spd transmissions. It has been rated at a slightly higher output than in the Celica, probably because of a remapped ECU and exhaust tuning (I don't think they did anything internally).

For a while, before Lotus started importing the Elise, you could get them on the gray market, often with a Honda B18.

It just sucks that it had to turn out this way. There is virtually no aftermarket for the Toyota motor. B-series Honda would be MUCH better. And K-series would have been out of this world.
