Default I spilled gas in my car !! Help please how do i remove the odor ??

While transporting my friends pocket bike, the gas can spilled all over the rear cargo area of my 99 Jeep grand Cherokee. I have tried steam cleaning the carpet like 5 times and it still smells. Its so bad it makes me dizzy. Does anyone know whats the best cleaning agent or method to removing gasoline from carpet ??

I'm just kidding. I spilled gas in my car before, not a lot though, I just let it air out after shampooing away. The smell eventually went away.

Spray some Febreeze on it or something.

I know you said you steam cleaned, but did you try those carpet cleaning vacuums that spray a soap solution on the carpet and then the liquid is vacuumed up from the carpet. I'd assume thats your best bet because you need to remove the gas/residue to get rid of the smell. Sorry if thats what you were talking about when you said steam cleaning.

I can still smell the fumes, I air the car out everyday. I am wondering what in terms of cleaning agents that would be the best to use to remove gasoline from carpets.

go to a store, buy an apple, cut it into slices and put it in your car.

The next morning, the smell will be gone.

It cant be done. Last month One2hit spilled a tiny bit of gas in his trunk, and it stunk the entire car out for over a week... the odor did not lessen either. We emptied a whole bottle of Febreeze back there too, it did nothing.

I smell gas from my tank all the time somehow.. Something is wrong and i cant figure it out..

But anyway i had the same problem.. My friend spilled gas from his pocket bike.. I just aired it out one day and it went away.. Sprayed some febreze to make sure it was all gone and that was it..

The apple idea sounds good though.. I love apples

Sorry to say it, but I'd replace carpet. Find it cheap at junkyard maybe?

I think gas is one of those light petroleum compounds that permeates everything and never completely goes away. It even permeates steel! I remember a friend's father who went to weld up a hole in a gastank that had been dry and vented for years, so he figured there'd be no more gas fumes, right? Wrong! As soon as he touched arc to metal...*POW*...he never made that mistake again! So it might be best if you just replace that piece of carpet if you don't want permanent dain bramage. (misspelling intentional)

Permanent brain damage can occur from constant smelling of gas fumes ?? I.e. in the car ??

Spray it with a degreaser, let it sit then wash it with water. Then do the apple thing, and let it air out.
