I paid them 1000 over what they paid the person they sold it to. I asked them for the paperwork and the guy showed it to us. I got pretty lucky. They dont have to do that with used cars.

Nice.

So does anybody work at a dealership and know if they go by or around what the kelly blue book "trade in value" is?

The trade in value is what the dealer will most likely pay you for your car. Thats why it's much lower, they say it's to cover the cost of any repairs that need to be made, cleaning it and all that stuff. They mark up huge amounts though. I know it doesnt cost them $5,000 to detail the damn car.

Hope that helps!

Blue book for my car when I got it was I believe 4,500. The guy had it up for sale for 3,700. I paid 3,000 for the car. He was a real small dealer and hadn't been moving any cars so I guess that I got lucky on this one.

Dealer was asking $6900. I got my teg for $5000 including tax & tag. Its a local, smaller dealership, and my uncle used to work there. btw this was in 2000.

DO not go buy "Blue Book" or "NADA" value. Dealers do not go by this when they purchase cars...onyl when they sell them. What you need to look for is a "BLACK BOOK" value. The black book is an industry only publication and the values are on average $1500-$2000 below "Blue Book" or "NADA" values. Here is that they do:

-Give you trade-in value based on their black book(VERY LOW VALUE)
-Sell cars based on the NADA value(WAY MORE THAN WHAT THEY PAID)

***I have access to these books if anyone wants to help me pay for the subscription........

dealers usualy won't pay much more than "rough book" Thats the lowest estimate in the black book.
