Default How Far Can One Throw a Football?

This guy that works in our warehouse at work thinks he can throw my football to the other end of the parking lot. It's seriously like 100 yards. He's a big guy, 220lbs but he's kinda fat. He does have a decent arm from what I've seen from throwing the ball around.

I told him there's NO WAY he can do it and laughed at him. He then bet me lunch that he can.

Can someone who's out of shape throw a football the length of a football field? Can quarterbacks even do that? What's the record?

Mike Vick probably has the best arm in the game and he could probably throw it about 70 yards maybe a little more.

when i was younger, me and a friend were playing catch in my apartments courtyard. a mid 20s guy came out and asked if he could throw the ball a couple times. he said he used to be a quarterback at the lutheran college in town. i bet he threw that bitch 65 yards. how long did Vick throw the ball in that one video that used to be in a powerade commercial?

I doubt anyone can throw the ball 100 yards.

I know 65 yards is a pretty good throw... 75 yards possible. Look back in the 90s when Kordell Stewart threw that long hail mary, what was it 70 yards and everyone was just like "HOLY ****". I'd say he couldn't throw it more than 65 - 75 yards. If he was doing roids, maybe 80 but defintely not 100.

Personally though, I could throw it over all the mountains in Ohio.

Thats what I was thinking as well.... I doubt he can throw 100yds. I always thought that the NFL QB's with the strongest arms could throw like 75ish max. I have no clue for sure though, would be impressed if he could do it.

Are we talking just a standing throw or a running start type throw?

I would bet someone who trains for it could throw a ball 80-100 yards. An NFL QB can most likely throw 70-80 yards accurately. The average athletic person probably throws 60-70 yards, and I'm sure just some guy who is strong can probably throw the same.

I would take the bet

I very seriously doubt that he could do it. Quarterbacks with the best arms can do 75-80, maybe a little longer. Kordell's hail mary againist Michigan was 70+ in the air and Flutie's againist Miami was 70 or so. Vick probably has the strongest arm in the NFL and he has stated he could only throw it about 75. Micheal Bishop (played for K-State and now NE) tossed one 80 at the combine a few years back.

I'm with everyone else. I doubt he can throw it 100 yards. 65-70 maybe, but not 100.

A few stats I found:

1) longest throw of an american football is 213.3 yards set in 1934 by George Lansborough, he was a wrestler with circuses accross the world, he set the record in Boxelder Texas. (couldn't find any proof, and definitely unbelievable)

2)The longest pass attempt in NFL history was on December 10, 1972. It was thrown by Jim Hart and traveled a distance of 98.3 yards.

3)Aaron brooks 73 yards in 2002 QB Challenge.

You can't even throw a baseball 213.3 yards.

I think Vick could throw it around 75 if he really tried to but I don't see anyone doig better than that. Brooks is surprising though.

Can he use one of the nerf long distance spiral footballs? Those bitches can be thrown 100 yards easily.

I forgot about Brooks. He doesn't make the wisest decisions but he has a cannon. I have a pretty decent arm although I havent' throw alot lately. I QB'd in HS and I could throw the ball 50+ yards. I couldn't imagine someone throwing twice that. Not that I needed to though. We only threw the ball about 5 times a game.
